A couple of years ago we couldn’t find ”tools” that felt right when they landed and in the hand when using them. Most rattan canes on the market are very low quality, too long and the plastic and delrin canes just dont feel right. So we first started to experiment with different kinds of rattan and then how to treat the canes with water and different oils. By then it was obvious that this medieval technology needed an update and we started to experiment with different plastics, rubbers and latex to cover and coat our canes to update this old technology a couple of 100 years. A raw natural rattan cane is a disposable or one person tool since it cannot be properly washed if it gets dirty or stained by different fluids. After a lot of experimentation we found the right industrial grade rubber that basically can take any punishment as long as it’s not cut. If any marks or dents should appear in the rubber or if the rubber over time gets lose it can be slowly heated up by a heatgun or hairdryer and it will thighten up and most dents or marks will magically disappear.   

When the magic formula was found by lot of trial and error, swinging and crying we started to perfect the finish and for several years we made these canes exclusively for friends and other fellow kinksters around us. As they look and feel amazing they quickly became very popular and we got more and more requests about people wanting to buy them so we started Butthurt.

When we started we just used 8mm canes but as time went on we discovered how different a couple of millimeters in diameter can feel and how different the bottom looks the day after. Over time both our love for impact play and thicker canes grew and today we can provide 10-16mm as standard order and 8,18 and 20mm as special orders. We still love 8mm canes but they are very thin and when using a natural material like rattan it’s hard to keep the quality as high as we want with a material that might break for no aparent reason. Therefore our standard products starts at 10mm diameter.

Rattan is a natural wood material from the Southeast Asia and is the name for roughly 600 species of old world climbing palms belonging to subfamily Calamoideae. The climbing habit is associated with the characteristics of its flexible woody stem, derived typically from a secondary growth, makes rattan a liana rather than a true wood.

Thin rattan canes were the standard implement for school corporal punishment in England and Wales, and are still used for this purpose in schools in Malaysia, Singapore, and several African countries. Similar canes are used for military punishments in the Singapore Armed Forces. Heavier canes, also of rattan, are used for judicial corporal punishments in Aceh, Brunei, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Rattan is today widely appreciated in kink communities all over the world because of its historic use and its special characteristics.
